Climate podcast with Christian Abl: Online retailers from the Far East as waste producers

In issue # 80 of the German speaking climate podcast “Vorsicht, heiß!” by profil, Christian Abl, Managing Director of Reclay Austria, spoke with Franziska Dzugan and Christina Hiptmayr about Chinese online retailers like Shein and Temu.

“An avalanche of new commercial goods and packaging materials is entering the European markets through Chinese online retailers. These companies can currently still circumvent the Austrian Packaging Ordinance relatively easily as they sell via online marketplaces. Countries such as France and Germany are already implementing operating bans if such online retailers do not fulfil their extended producer responsibility,” says Abl, describing the current problems surrounding online marketplaces in Austria.

If you want to learn more about the sales strategies of Chinese online retailers, Extended Producer Responsibility in Austria and the need to harmonise legislation at European level you can listen to the podcast here.
